Sample House
Taipei
2009/2010

Taiwanese sample houses are temporary structures constructed as a sales tool and publicity mechanism for new housing developments.  They are a competitive art form - each sample house trying to outdo the next.   Our Sample House designed for for JUT Project Development Taipei draws inspiration from the aruana, or Chinese Silver Dragonfish as well as the graceful mountain range ringing the Taipei basin and diving into the Pacific Ocean and Taiwan Straights to the west.  The fluid, site-less, animate body made of the stuff of dreams speaks architecturally to the idea of “dream home” through its fantastical exterior envelope.  The Aluminum shell of the fish plunges into pools of water which have been carved into the existing rice fields.  Unlike many sample houses the structure, including the industrial aluminum foil skin, has been designed to be one hundred percent recyclable.
